Artifact: Shared Vision Paper
Reflection:
The shared vision paper was completed to write a shared vision for the school. In completing the shared vision, I first conducted a needs assessment to gather the input of the school’s stakeholders before developing a shared vision for future technology integration. The shared vision is a reflection of the needs and desires of the school stakeholders. This data was gathered using an effective questionnaire to pinpoint the specific topic the shared vision addressed. To create the shared vision, I surveyed both teachers and administrators in the school and used their answers to form the shared vision.
Standard 1.1, Shared Vision sets the precedent for development and implementation of a shared vision for technology use. This particular artifact demonstrates my ability to develop the shared vision by first understanding survey and interview design principles to develop a questionnaire to administer to staff and administration to gather data. Once this data was gathered, the data was analyzed to determine common themes prevalent throughout staff responses. The single theme that kept appearing in the data helped guide the development of the shared vision. The shared vision combined the common theme and was further developed through analysis of supporting research to provide the rationale for the shared vision.
The implementation of the shared vision is a slow process and requires communication with stakeholders to ensure full implementation in the future. To first implement the plan, the school required an upgraded WiFi network for students to login to using their devices. This new wireless network was installed and students are currently transitioning to the new network as part of the implementation of a portion of the shared vision.
Completing the shared vision was an authentic learning experience that ended up being quite applicable to the school. From this experience, I first learned how to design effective questions to gather data using a questionnaire. I then had to analyze the data to determine a common theme in the stakeholder responses to direct the development of the shared vision. Analyzing the data gave me a clear direction for the shared vision but also gave me some overall insight into general opinions of the stakeholders. The shared vision helped give direction to the school to guide a technology plan for technology access for all students. To further enhance this artifact, I would like to include a more specific proposed timeline for the implementation of the shared vision and more communication with stakeholders to continue support during the implementation process.
Plans for future technology implementation, like a shared vision, are important to direct the integration of technology within schools. The data collection brought important topics to the attention of stakeholders who could then discuss the future impact of technology in the schools. The implementation of the shared vision itself will help improve student access to technology in the classroom and will also create better teacher morale as students will be more engaged in the learning. The overall impact will be assessed by student achievement after full implementation of the shared vision.
