6.2 Reflection
Candidates regularly evaluate and reflect on their professional practice and dispositions to improve and strengthen their ability to effectively model and facilitate technology-enhanced learning experiences. (PSC 6.2/ISTE 6c)
Artifact: Weebly Blog
Reflection:
The Weebly blog was created and routinely updated to reflect upon each course within the Instructional Technology program. In addition, the blog was also used during ITEC 7430, Internet Tools in the Classroom, to reflect on major course topics and perfect my blogging skills. The importance of the blogging was to demonstrate the ability to reflect on each course from the perspective of an instructional technology student in coach. I wrote each of these blog posts individually and posted each blog post to my student portfolio website.
Standard 6.2 sets the foundation for the evaluation and reflection on professional practice and dispositions throughout the Instructional Technology Specialist degree program. This artifact demonstrates my ability to evaluate and reflect on each course I took during the degree program. Because the reflections occurred at the end of each course, I was able to evaluate each course based on how my professional practice improved. Additionally, the blog postings allowed me to reflect on each course from the standpoint of my current dispositions as well as reflect on how my professional practice changed as a result of the course.
Completing the blog postings was an almost therapeutic process for me. I enjoyed being able to reflect on each course but to also reflect on myself as a developing candidate of the instructional technology program. In addition, I was also able to learn how to refine my blogging skills to accurately reflect on each course. The blog postings within the ITEC 7430 course also encouraged my blogging skills and as I progressed through that course I learned how to be more open and thorough as I wrote each blog post. In doing my blogging differently, I wish I would have also kept a personal blog of my journey through this degree program. In this way, I would have been able to further refine my blogging skills and have a better personal understanding of my changes and thoughts as I progressed through this program.
This work impacted faculty development in that I learned how to be a better blogger which are skills and tips that I am able to pass on to my fellow colleagues. In addition, my experience with blogging through this program has also benefitted student learning in that I have also encouraged my students to blog. While I have not implemented a full-on blogging program with my students, I have encouraged, and at times graded, blog posts from my students in an effort to promote blogging within my classroom. The impact of blogging can be assessed by examining my blog posts throughout the program and analyzing the changes and progress I have made. In addition, student impact can be assessed by analyzing the improvements of student blogging but also the improvements in overall student writing as a result of being encouraged to reflectively blog throughout their course.
