When this course first began, I was somewhat concerned because the course has a large focus on leadership. While I am viewed as a teacher-leader in my school and feel comfortable in leader-type positions, I have no desire to be a leader in terms of administration within my school. That being said, I was very impressed with this course and really appreciate the new knowledge I have after completing this this course. The concepts of shared vision, SWOT, and action plans were new to me, but after completing these assignments, I have a whole different perspective on what goes on at my school in terms of data use and how those findings are applied to other parts of the school.
The shared vision was enlightening to me! First, because I was shocked that my school did not even have a shared vision in place and second, because there is such a need for our school to have a shared vision. This course has inspired me want to start the process of not only creating a shared vision but a data team as well (yet another thing currently absent from my school). After completing the shared vision assignment, I was anxious to get started on the SWOT analysis. This analysis only exposed further gaps and issues within my school but also started my investment in wanting to make things better and brainstorming ways to do this as I worked through the SWOT analysis. The final action plan assignment was also wonderful and it really put the implementation of improved data collection, analysis, and closing gaps into perspective. Thanks to this course, I am anxious to meet with my administration to determine how we can more effectively use data in our school to achieve the goals we constantly strive to reach.
